The launch of a research and exchange project
In April 2024, the Colour Design research group undertook a 10-day field trip to the School of Architecture & Environment at the University of Oregon. Nine German students, led by Prof. Timo Rieke, took part in the exchange, which focused on ‘cultural colour and visual colour habits’. The excursion marked the start of a long-term research and exchange project in the fields of colour design and interior architecture.
An area where research has been limited
Prof. Rieke led a colour workshop together with US students and gave a lecture as part of an interdisciplinary course. The aim of the excursion was to gain insights into culturally diverse and generally perceived effects of colour, an area in which research has so far been limited.
The visit laid the foundations for future collaboration; next, US students will make a return visit to Hildesheim. The exchange offered valuable opportunities to enrich the curriculum at both institutions.
