Prof. Sabine Cole (Professor of Advertising Design) and Prof. Franziska Junge (Professor of Graphic Design) from the Faculty of Design at HAWK Hildesheim, together with the editorial team behind the student project "The Coalition Agreement as a Magazine," have received the prestigious Gold Award from the German Design Club (DDC). The DDC honored their innovative idea of bringing the current coalition agreement to newsstands in the form of a visually outstanding magazine.

The DDC award holds special significance: every entry must answer the question, "What is good?" Guided by the motto "Good design creates lasting value for society," the DDC champions projects that—far removed from superficial gimmickry—are distinguished by their integrity, substance, and sense of social responsibility.

The laudatory speech for the project was given by Ingo Butsch, Creative Director and design strategist from Frankfurt. He highlighted the project's social relevance and its responsible design-led interpretation of the coalition agreement: "Rarely has a project that strengthens democratic values been such a perfect fit for a competition that celebrates design. This project is a prime example of what happens when people take action out of a sense of civic responsibility."

On behalf of Prof. Sabine Cole, designer Birte Ludwig, former lecturer in graphic design at HAWK, accepted the award in Wiesbaden. "It gives me great pleasure to accept this award on her behalf, as I have long held Prof. Sabine Cole’s work and dedication in high regard," said Ludwig. Contributors to the project included students Martin Gnadt, Josefine Nass, and Lara Koehler from the Master’s program in Design, as well as an illustration team of seven students led by tutor Robin Adlung from the Bachelor’s program in Design.

"This award illustrates how one can position oneself with conviction in the design industry and thereby create sustainable social value. This is exactly what we teach our students at HAWK."
Prof. Sabine Cole

With the "Coalition Agreement as Magazine" project, Professors Cole and Junge demonstrate how design and illustration can serve as tools for societal engagement: in line with the values of the DDC, the award-winning teaching and research practice at HAWK fosters responsible, value-creating design—in the service of society.
