Metal work convinces at the Lower Saxony State Prize

Students of the study program Design have participated with their work in the Lower Saxony State Prize for the Design Crafts.

The works were made of steel, brass and glass and convinced the jury.

Since 1958, the state government has been awarding the Lower Saxony State Prize for the Creative Craft, which distinguishes the best in the trade for extraordinary creativity and technical perfection.

HAWK alumni Eric Rühmekorf and the two students Tim Neumann and Gerrit Schulze Raestrup are happy about the promotion awards. Both are currently studying at the HAWK Faculty Design in the field of competence Metal design & jewellery.

The state prize goes to Marit Bindernagel.

Devotion candlesticks and Easter candlesticks made of steel

Eric Rühmekorf, HAWK graduate in the field of competence metal design & jewellery in the bachelor's degree program design, received the Förderpreis 2025 from the jury.

The metal designer born in Nordstemmen in 1998 has submitted 2 major works for the competition. He designed a devotional candlestick and an Easter candlestick made of steel. Eric Rühmekorf convinced the jury with a perfect execution of the works and received 4,000 euros as an award.

Remembrance of the preciousness of nature

Tim Neumann, state-recognised silversmith, designed vessels that commemorate mediaeval reliquars. The vessels used to keep memories of saints. Tim Neumann filled his vessels with natural materials to remember the preciousness of nature. He shares the second promotion prize with Gerrit Schulze Raestrup.

Tear vessels made of glass, brass and salt

Gerrit Schulze Raestrup, a metalworker specialising in metal design, reinterpreted ancient tear vessels and dealt with the topic of grief. He experimented with the materials and convinced the jury with the complexity of the topic.
