As part of her book project "Frau und Werk" (Woman and Craft), Kara Ihlenburg conducted narrative interviews with craftswomen from various trades—ranging from construction and medical crafts to jewelry making. Their stories offer insights into biographical paths, approaches to materials, and individual attitudes toward manual work. Essays on the theory of the discipline complement these dialogues; they highlight historical contexts, reveal instances of exclusion, and reframe key concepts. The work was supervised by Prof. Dominika Hasse and Barbara König-Warneboldt.

The female body—particularly that of Indigenous, impoverished, and racialized women—has become a battlefield where the power dynamics of patriarchy, the state, and capital intersect. Susie Itandehui Heuberger from the field of expertise metal design & jewelry speaks in her work “The Body of Crime” of a category that accuses and makes visible how certain bodies have been historically criminalized simply by virtue of their existence. Thus, the body becomes a witness, an archive, a home, and a trench. This Master’s thesis in Design was supervised by Prof. Dr. Sabine Foraita and Prof. Melanie Isverding.

What if people viewed animals not just as objects, but as beings that look at them and whose gaze intersects with their own? What if the boundaries between humans and animals were to dissolve? What if living together in this world were a process of growing together? Nadine Anklam collected the hoof horn and fur for these body-related objects during her work as a farrier: “I know the name of every horse they came from. They are my companions, sharing an interconnected otherness.” Prof. Melanie Isverding and Felicia Mülbaier supervised this final project from the Bachelor’s degree program in Design, specializing in Metal Design & Jewelry.

Regional medicinal herbs, vessels designed to be held, and a mindful period of appreciation: within the field of product design, Juliane-Antonia Greve developed a tea set that encourages the gathering, preparation, and leisurely enjoyment of herbal tea—creating moments of calm, grounding, and slowing down. Prof. Hartwig Gerbracht and Jan Obornik supervised this final project from the Bachelor’s degree program in Design.
