Franz Baltaharsar Kirsch receives the prize of the students
Funkenfranz: Sparks of joy
The student prize went to ‘Funkenfranz’. Franz Baltaharsar Kirsch’s project involved creating a machine capable of emitting sparks of various colours. It explores the fascination behind machines and pyrotechnics and brings this to life in a mechanical device. Mara Lübke, a student on the Master’s programme in Design, explained the jury’s reasoning on behalf of the five-member panel: “It all began with a level of enthusiasm you don’t see every day – the desire to make a spark fly. The resulting creation has been thought through down to the smallest detail. Every component was designed and manufactured by the student themselves: the cast parts, the screws, the springs, even the tiniest connections. Nothing is left to chance; the result is a finished, fully functional machine.” The trophy was designed and produced by Jonas Schwalenberg.
Supervised by Prof. Melanie Isverding and Dip.-Ing. Hans-Heinrich Schwalenberg
