Blended Short Term Mobility – What does it mean?
A blended short term mobility is the combination of a short study abroad period (5 ─ 30 days, for studies or an internship) with a virtual phase that takes place before and/or after the on-site phase. The purpose of the virtual phase is to facilitate collaborative online learning exchange and teamwork.
Short-term mobilities are particularly intended for students who, due to personal, family, health-related or degree-related circumstances, are not able to go abroad for a longer period.
Short-term mobility can be funded within the framework of a Blended Intensive Programme (BIP).
At HAWK, in the project currently running in 2026 short-term mobilities are funded under the following conditions:
1. Participation in a Blended Intensive Programme (BIP), where there is an Erasmus+ cooperation with the receiving university and HAWK is involved in organising the BIP
- The respective BIP is integrated into the relevant degree programme at HAWK.
- In this case, participating students are nominated to the International Office by the responsible lecturer. The deadline is determined by the dates of the BIP.
Funding note for Project 2026: The maximum funding period is five days plus a maximum of two travel days. For BIPs lasting longer than this, all additional days are zero-grant days, i.e. days for which no financial support is provided.
2. A short-term internship for students on the (dual) nursing degree programme and the midwifery degree programme
- Mandatory virtual phase (preparatory or follow‑up online session), which must be agreed individually in advance between the intern and the clinic.
- Students enrolled in the (dual) nursing degree programme: Up to three students may participate as part of the compulsory one-month placement at the end of the fifth semester (calendar weeks 8–12). Interested students should contact Professor Shiney Franz, who will nominate the students to the International Office. The deadline is 30 June of the preceding year.
Students enrolled in the midwifery degree programme: Up to three students may participate as part of the practical training period in the seventh semester (maximum of 30 days during calendar weeks 39–46). Interested students should contact Inga Schlüter or Sandra Hartwigsen, who will nominate the students to the International Office. The deadline is 14 June of the relevant year.
3. Participation in any Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) or another short-term mobility at a partner university or in the form of an internship (provided that sufficient ERASMUS+ funds are available)
The prerequisite is that students can prove that, due to personal, family, health-related or degree-related circumstances, they are unable to undertake a long-term mobility (a full study semester or at least a 2‑month internship).
- The short-term mobility must be credited with at least 3 ECTS towards the degree at HAWK.
- Bei der Teilnahme an einem BIP einer Partnerhochschule ohne Beteiligung der HAWK ist eine Förderung darüber hinaus grundsätzlich für alle Studierenden möglich. Studierende, die keine nachweislich keine Langzeitmobilität durchführen können, werden bevorzugt berücksichtigt.
Hinweis zur Förderung aus Projekt 2026: Die maximale Förderdauer beträgt 5 Tage zzgl. max. 2 Reisetage. Bei länger dauernden BIP-Aufenthalten sind alle weiteren Tage sog. Zero-Grant Tage, also ohne finanziellen Zuschuss. - Interested may should contact the International Office for a mandatory counselling meeting.
- The deadline for this counselling meeting is three months before the planned mobility.
