Lighter is heavier than air

Gabi Semmelroggen

In "Lighter is heavier than air" by Gabi Semmelroggen, a person suddenly feels that she is no longer wanted. What could be the consequences? In the case of Gabi Semmelroggen, the decision against staying in a narrow hierarchical environment was at the beginning of her discussion of the effects of hierarchy and patriarchy up to the consequences of the Nazi era for the descendants. Her practical work tries to contrast the narrowness and restriction of movement of a rigid system with the exhilaration of a diverse, colourful system.

Type*innen – Writings of women

Sophie Stillig

Renner, Frutiger, Spiekermann, Garamond: These are the surnames of font designers who met Sophie Stillig during her studies. She asked herself: "Where are the font designers? Her publication "type*innen - Schriften von Frauen" deals with the problem of under-representation and the lack of visibility of font designers and their writings. The work presents 80 writings by 36 women, variously prepared for designers to be inspired.

Underwater oases/coral gardens

Jonas Fey

Rising sea temperatures and ocean accidity endanger coral reefs, which play an important role in human lives. Due to climate change, storms are increasing, accompanied by heavy tidal waves that cause massive coral damage. Jonas Fey's brooches visualise dystopia through artificial structures that represent negative human environmental influences. It also symbolises the hope for the recovery of the corals and a harmonious coexistence of people and animals.

The price

The Faculty of Design supports the prize with an exhibition display and promotes the accompanying print media by taking over printing costs. In addition, the university supports the transport of exhibition furniture. It was important that the mans to incur any costs in the context of the exhibition. The awarded students accompanied and conveyed their work and objects through their presence at the fair. The sale of the own objects was possible and desired. Prerequisites for the selection process were artefacts and objects such as interior and body-related objects, book objects, prints or photographs.
