The master's graduate Clara Happ of the Faculty of Design created a book as a reliable object that can be experienced with all the senses.

This resulted in a declaration of love to the art of wood and linocut, analogue photography and the book as a comprehensive communication medium.

Master's graduate Clara Happ receives the STEIDL-HAWK BOOK DESIGN AWARD 2024/25

Time to breathe

The master's thesis is the result of the artistic and creative examination of the work of the mountaineer Reinhard Karl. His photographs and texts gave impulses for a journey, on which she entered into a creative dialogue with his living environment. This resulted in a declaration of love to the art of wood and linocut, analogue photography and the book as a comprehensive communication medium. A book as a reliable object that can be experienced with all your senses. The work was supervised by Prof. Dominika Hasse and Tom Dauer.

The award

The STEIDL-HAWK BOOK DESIGN AWARD is awarded once a year in cooperation with Steidl Verlag and is addressed to all graduates of the Faculty of Design whose thesis is understood as a book with architectural, design, artistic or photographic content. A thesis written at the HAWK Faculty of Design, which is a self-created mock-up of a book, can be submitted.
