"Visible" and "Time to breathe"

"Sichtbar - Frauen in der Architektur" collects portraits of women from all areas of architecture - from architectural offices to specialist journalism, from planning to implementation, from urban planning to networking and teaching. Based on iconic photographs, Anke Illing portrayed the women with selected accessories. The Chaise Longue LC4 and the Fauteuil Tournant LC7 by Charlotte Perriand (1903–1999) play a central role. What themes characterise women in architecture? What drives her? A book about women and women: Together, female students of the Editorial Design under the direction of Prof. Dominika Hasse at the Faculty of Design of the HAWK in Hildesheim developed the idea of the text block reminiscent of building bodies in order to creatively translate the individuality of the individual protagonists depicted. For this they have deliberately chosen the writing of a woman, the Marguerite Grotesk, by Charlotte Rohde. Finally, the idea of collage was convincing for the title - a motif that leaves the necessary space for imagination and yet sets clear visual signs. The book was created in a team from the conception, through the design to the printing readiness.

The master's thesis "Time to Breathe" is the result of Clara Happ's artistic and creative engagement with the work of mountaineer Reinhard Karl. His photographs and texts gave impulses for a journey, on which she entered into a creative dialogue with his living environment. This resulted in a declaration of love to the art of wood and linocut, analogue photography and the book as a comprehensive communication medium. A book as a reliable object that can be experienced with all your senses. The used typeface Ambiant by Laura Csocsan is opposed to analogue typewriter texts. Clara Happ developed about the examination of the texts Reinhard Karl's associative worlds of thought, which the book conveys about various, partly analogue, design techniques. In addition to the sophisticated text set, this diverse use of different materials shapes the impression of the readers: handwritten paper, tracing paper, risography and digital printing make the hardcover book with half-linen cover and laser-glaced cover made of bookbinding cardboard an impressive overall experience for the viewers.
